We all have them, yes? With any luck they are few and far between. Yesterday was one for me. On my way out the door to go to the airport at 6 a.m. I realized I’d not seen my wallet since late afternoon the previous day. Long story short, I’ve still not found it, missed my flight, and lost a fair bit of money on plane tickets and car rental/motel deposits.
It’s not such a great time to be donating money, willy nilly, to for-profit corporations, as my husband has been out of work since September. Which brings me to the other not so great thing about yesterday. With the job market so saturated with eager workers, companies can and do move slowly when hiring, and they can afford to be very picky. Yesterday, we found out, our latest job hope is not to be. We aren’t worried. We are doing fine financially. There are far more people in far worse shape to be worried about. It’s just disconcerting that work is so hard to find. It’s weird (the best word I can come up with) I guess. It’s not something that I’ve really experienced before, and I guess, somehow, I thought I must be immune. Welcome to the real world, to real life.
One bit of bright happiness is that I got my business cards from moo today (a slight bit of indulgence in an otherwise frugal time). Since I’m in a new city I figured it might be nice to have cards to give to others I meet, in social or professional capacities. I’ve never had business cards before, so I’m a little bit giddy that I found a way to rationalize getting them. Yay.
Really, no reason to worry about us over here. I just felt the need for a momentary pity party, a bit of complaining. Feel better now. Thanks!
Oh…. we also got a speeding ticket on Sunday. Wrong place, wrong time. Our number was up.
Okay, now I’m really done.
Happy days to you (and me)!!

Aw, I'm sorry you had such a rotten day. On the bright side, it's OVER and the future is bright! Or, perhaps brightER! Venting is good for the soul and blood pressure, and that's why we're here. Vent away anytime - and I love your new cards! Hang in there, babe.
I think a very valid set of reasons to count this as a not-great-day! Amazing how sometimes just getting it out can help though and I hope you do feel better for it... My blog really helps me deal with some of this stuff too 'cause it's my safe but still connected and supportive space - I love that about blogging.
I also love your new cards! What a great way to start making contacts in your new city. Who could be anything but delighted to be handed something so lovely? It's bound to get safely tucked into a purse or wallet to be rediscovered at just the right moment - when they need the services of someone with your talent!
these cards are AWESOME!!!!!
