modesty

It’s one of my favorite things in people (those who have it at least), particularly creative folks.

My mother-in-law made this, by hand (no machine).

Kathy's Curvy Cheddar  Kathy’s Curvy Cheddar photo and quilt by Kathy H. 2009

It was for a challenge her quilt guild put forth. It’s actually a combo of two challenges. The first was to combine black, white, and one other color which is assigned. She got “Cheddar” and pretty much threw up her hands. I would have too. Then this more recent challenge, which I can’t remember well, had to do with curves I believe.

She thinks it’s a little too much. I think she needs to put it away for a while and then take it out and look at it. It’s what happens when we work hard on something new, outside of our comfort zone. All we can see is doubt. I think she needs to put it away until she can see it the way I do. I think it’s amazing and beautiful.

If she ever does become satisfied with it, she’ll likely never say that it is great. Such is the greatness of her modesty.

Quilters have my undying respect. It's hard work, but the results are stunningly gorgeous. I love this as well, Rachel. Well done, mom!

I'm with you on this! Who'd have thought cheddar could look so lovely?! And curvy is gorgeous. Quilting is one of those (many) art forms that I am in absolute awe of. I have one, made 'specially for me by an aunt who is also a modest artist of incredible talent, and it's one of my most treasured things. Thank you for sharing this with us.
