the gratitude of strangers ~

Today a man thanked my 15 month old son for giving him one of those big, full body smiles that only children remember how to give. I'm still genuinely awestruck at the fact that this simple act of gratitude changed me instantly. I was transported from a place of fatigue and resentment at being shackled to a toddler that couldn't be satisfied by my day's plans, to a slower more simple place, where joy is not only noticed but contagious and appreciated. I'd like to thank that man for making me smile, for reminding me to notice and to be grateful.
